Beers of Digital Middle-Earth: The Prancing Pony

The Prancing Pony

Taking a break from questing in Staddle, I decided to head to Bree-town and visit the Inn of the Prancing Pony. Calumbo march over to the bar and introduced himself Barliman Butterbur, who poured him three beers: Barliman’s Best, Moor-Boar Beer and Blind Troll Stout.

The tag for Barliman’s Best is that it’s the best beer at the Prancing Pony. What it did not say is that Barliman’s Best is the strongest beer at the Prancing Pony.

After Calumbo consumed the beverage, the screen became blurry. Next to the debuffs, it said “You’ve muddled your wits.” During this state, Calumbo ended up walking outside and then danced in front of Polly the healer.

As for the Moor-Boar, it was not as strong as Barliman’s. Although Calumbo was a little tipsy, the screen and gameplay did not change.

I waited to try the Blind Troll Stout until I traveled to the Hengstacer Farm to buy a mount. Once I had purchased a chestnut steed, which I named Bullseye, Calumbo downed the stout. Despite the name, the stout was as strong as the Moor-Boar.

Once Calumbo had finished the stout, I had him ride around for a little bit. The beer had no affect on the riding.

Barliman’s Best
“The Prancing Pony’s best and that’s saying a lot.”

Moor-Boar Beer
“Because you can never have enough boar.”

Blind Troll Stout
“Come morning, you’d wish you’d turn to stone.”
